Preparing For Camp EARLY!!
Fall has arrived, we can tell by the daily rain. This leaves only two seasons until its summer again and that will mean “camp time”. It really does come that quickly.
I want to share with you some of the things we are doing in preparation for Crystal Springs Baptist Youth Camp 2012. Mountain View has set aside a member Sister Juanita Biller as Camp Treasurer and set up a separate account just for camp. We also had our first fund raiser (Scripturethon). It was not a huge financial success but we had three of our junior age kids commit to memory (word perfect) the 21st Psalm, and two other learn word perfect Psalm 1!! It also reconfirmed to us that not all fund raisers work as well as we hope they will. It’s a good thing that we did it in September and not July or we would have been strapped to pay for camp. We are having another fund raiser this week, a servant’s auction. Our aim is to have all of the money issues taken care of early so that we can concentrate on the needs of our campers and what God has for us to do at camp.
Keeping to our promise to be more organized we have set aside Bro Randy Green to be our” Head Wrangler” next summer. He was this past summer too, but he just didn’t have a “title”. We trust that by doing this we can expand and enhance the hose riding activity. Bro. Randy has a vision of recruiting other wranglers from among our sister churches to bring their horses and lend their knowledge to help our campers experience the joys of Horse Back Riding. We also want to teach them some of the basics of caring for a horse and the biblical teaching regarding ones’ responsibility for that care. You do realize that we all (the saved) will be coming back with Jesus riding horses, don’t you? Rev 19:14
I also want to ask of each church to pray about sleeping space and bunks for camp. We know that the Prineville church has some Army tents that we will be able to use. I think these will sleep ten or fifteen each. We (Mountain View) are praying that we will be able to build another cabin. There are things that will need to happen that God will have to direct, before we can do this. The biggest thing is the Prineville Church has get approval from the Forest Service to build additional cabins. Our plan is to pre-fab or pre-build the cabin here then reassemble it at the camp on a foundation that the Prineville Church will prepare. We have the desire and the know-how so we trust that Our God will provide the money. It goes without saying that we need more bunks and mattresses too. Do any of you know where we can get these?
We at Mountain View Baptist are responsible for our Youth Camp but we are also excited about the Family Camp at Crystal Springs that is sponsored by the Prineville Church. The Youth Camp is a week of intense evangelistic work for our Lord on behalf of the youth of our respected communities and churches but Family Camp is a week of revival and refreshment for our churches and homes. It is a time to come away from the world to be with those of like faith for a season of fellowship, encouragement and renewal. I as the pastor of Mountain View recommend that our families that use this as their vacation.
I hope to see many of you at the camp next week. Bro Barker has promised us steak for every meal, great fellowship, some preaching and work too as we winterize the camp.
Your servant, Bro. Rex Smith
